A new year brings plenty of opportunities for Decoupage Flooring!  Any wonder?  More and more, people realize Decoupage Flooring is a viable, creative, and more importantly, durable flooring option.  Here's a bedroom I just completed.  This is a matte finish which I really like these days.  Gives the surface a beautiful, soft glow..  Also included a close up of the surface so you can see more detail - it looks like distressed leather or stone but is super smooth.  I can incorporate any colors in this treatment, making it totally custom to the client's decor.

Decoupage on walls gives a sophisticated texture, pictured here in a soft blue-gray coloring on a project I just finished.  It's smooth so it can be wiped down easily.  The surface has a visual depth, unlike many faux finished walls that are shallow and thin looking.

Yikes!  Where has the time gone.  Sorry for such a delay in posting a new project!  I have some BIG, gigantic news but can't share it quite yet so stay tuned.  Shouldn't be too much longer.  Here's a shot of a recent floor in the classic brown veining.  The sealer is still wet so it shows a very high sheen.  This will settle down to a soft, satin glow in a few hours.

My Decoupage Flooring updates ANY space...how about the waiting area of Davidson Mufflers, McKinney, TX.  Transformed from a dingy, stained carpet to a smooth, sophisticated surface - easy to clean, plus the whole room is brighter.  Now, waiting on a muffler repair just got a lot nicer inside, while the great guys at this place do the work outside!

It's great to be able to combine several colors for a client creating a truly custom floor to match their decor.  In this most recent installation, I combined a rich taupe undertone with a top coloring of a soft camel tone.  The result looks a lot like Sandstone and complimenting the dark granite counter tops, as well as the antiqued beige cabinetry.  Plus, we covered the plain, beige tile that didn't do such a sophisticated kitchen justice.  Now the client has a smooth, easy to clean floor that is beautiful!

Update a laundry room with a smooth, easy to clean Decoupage Floor.  The classic brown color for this floor is rich with veining and has been my most popular color throughout the years.  Looks great with just about everything and can, of course, be colored lighter and with less veining to suit your personal taste.

Decoupaged another counter top and sink, then complimented it with a checkerboard decoupage floor.  Another cultured marble all-in-one counter top and sink saved from the landfill and given new life.  The decoupaged floor was over subflooring (plywood) on a pier and beam house.  I replicated the look of marble, blacks and whites, to create this "tiled" floor.

Here's how to transform a dark, rather scuffed up old coffee table.  After I painted it an antique white, I added photocopied images from an old dictionary I found.  I dry brushed a soft gray and white paint randomly across the words to obscure them a bit so they would look more 'arty'.  Is that a word?  Then I glazed the entire piece with a very thin wash of brown to antique it down a bit.  Since this is a functional surface and needs to withstand coffee cups, occasional spills, etc... I gave it a couple of coats of a satin urethane.  Easy breezy!  Hope you like it.

Something a little different, but with decoupage, of course!  I love vintage things and found this old medicine cabinet at a junk yard.  The mirrored front was wonderfully faded, definitely showing its age.  Here's how I created it:  After cleaning, then clear sealing the metal cabinet, I painted it first with a soft, French blue, then dry-brushed over that with a dove gray paint.  (house paint, nothing fancy) I photo copied a handful of vintage photos and grabbed a few scraps of dressmaking pattern paper.  Once these items were decoupaged onto the metal cabinet, I sealed it with an acrylic sealer for protection, then glazed the entire cabinet and images with Ralph Lauren glaze, "Tobacco".  It gives a subtle, lovely antiquing to the piece.  Simple!  Mine is a table top piece now, since I chose to reverse the mirror so that it stands up on its own, but the cabinet doesn't close.  Or you could leave the mirrored door so that it closes, revealing its beautifully decoupaged interior when opened.  Glass shelving could be added (since it still has the original supports for shelving) to hold sweet treasures - perhaps a bird nest or handful of sea shells.

May was filled with jobs and we're in June already.  Yikes!  This year is flying, isn't it?  I worked on an entry area, brightly updated with an antique white decoupage floor.  I also made another trip out to Nacogdoches for a small job.  Then I took a week to update one of my bathrooms.  Something for me, for a change!  I decided to decoupage a red floor, inspired by the red I have been using for the floor and fireplace in Plano.  But after I finished the floor the rest of the bathroom desperately needed updating, too. Isn't that always what happens?  So I painted the walls and added lots of whimsical accents. Here are some photos of the bathroom.  By the way, the counter top and SINK is also decoupaged!

Want to totally change a room that has a drab, tiled fireplace surround and hearth?  How about decoupaging it!  I just finished this gorgeous fireplace surround and hearth in a lovely home in the Preston Meadow area of Plano, TX.  The bold color red is the color of the room's walls offset with crisp white wood work.  When coloring the paper, I incorporated metallic bronze and gold for an even richer, more dramatic look.  Hope you like it!

This entry way in Plano, TX, was originally white porcelain tile which didn't do the rest of this beautiful home justice. First, I skimmed the tile with a special product, totally covering the grout lines. Following the rich reds and warm browns of the adjacent areas, I incorporated the client's specific red paint into the paper, then veined with a deep brown.  Random pieces of paper had more red, others had none, giving it a more spontaneous look.  Now when the front door is opened, guests will be greeted by a uniquely inviting entry.

Busy Spring!  I just returned from Nacogdoches, TX.  Perfect time of year to visit this town, the deep East Texas pines, dogwoods blooming, oh, yes, and installing a floor!  This was an office, bathroom, hallway, dining room, kitchen combo.  The charcoal/taupe veining and color of paper complimented the granite counters and black and stainless appliances.

Check this out!  Just finished an outdoor kitchen in Trophy Club, TX.  The homeowners installed a fabulous outdoor kitchen area and decorated it with comfy, inviting furnishings, not to mention a flat screen TV.  I could move right in!  I added nonskid microbeads to the surface so when the grandkids run from the pool to go inside the house, they won't slip and slide.

Thought I would show you a couple of new sample boards.  The one with 4 different looks will go to a potential client in Vancouver, WA.  The other looks like buffalo hide.  Would make a gorgeous floor - maybe I will redo one of my rooms!

Good morning!  Spring has sprung, which is a good thing, considering I am installing a floor for an outdoor kitchen this week in Trophy Club, TX.  Too bad I don't own a helicopter for traveling back and forth - the traffic is terrible!  Oh well, the installation is going well.  Thought I would send out a work in progress photo.  All of the paper was installed yesterday so I will go back today for a look to see how it is drying.

Another job finished near the holidays was for a retail store in the Historic District of McKinney, TX.  Part of the existing floor was tile, the rest was hardwood flooring.  The owner wanted me to match the color of the wood stain with my decoupage.  No problem!  Now, both surfaces compliment each other in color and satin finish.  I skimmed the tiled area smooth, of course, before I decoupaged it.
December was busier than in years past.  Even after Thanksgiving I had installations to do.  Seems the economy has come back enough for some last minute remodels before the in-laws arrive for Christmas.  I created a floor that was a blend of dark tan/camel with darker accents.  Then, I took those same colors and combined them for the counter top paper.  The effect on the floor was one of sandstone.  The counter tops resembled granite.  Each had a distinctly different feeling but the colors blended nicely.  Also, the contrast of the satin finish flooring against the high gloss counter top was nice.  Here are some photos.  Hope you like them, the clients were very pleased.
Winter is here with a vengeance!  Rolling 'black outs' today...in Texas!  Wind chill down to 2 degrees.  Yikes!  I have a pending job decoupaging an outdoor kitchen/covered patio area.  Definitely going to have to wait for this installation.  At least I can be coloring the paper so that when the weather warms up a bit I'll be ready.  The homeowner has been installing a fabulous outdoor kitchen/grill that will make for some great photos.

Met with my Atlanta, GA, distributor, Jeff Fry, this past week.  He was in town to do an installation as well as visit with family.  Jeff has created some of the prettiest samples EVER!  His techniques for achieving granite-like effects are amazing.  He keeps the bar set very  high for the rest of us to keep up with his talents!  Check out his website at:  artfloorsofgeorgia.com
